As the Rhythm Reach Foundation begins to develop and take root, I’m humbled at the opportunity to give back and be a part of the solution to creating equity, empowering innovation, and investing in our future. As I’ve begun my journey as CEO, I have immersed myself in learning about Philanthropy, its origins, and it’s meaning, “love of humanity or mankind.” In my research, I found that modern philanthropy has roots in the ancient world, and these philanthropic practices were built into their social and belief structures. For example, the ancient Greeks considered philanthropy fundamental to democracy, and in civilizations of sub-Saharan Africa, reciprocity and kindness to others were integral.
Today, philanthropy is defined as the practice of organized and systematic giving to improve the quality of human life through the promotion of welfare and social change.
I learned that throughout time, philanthropists have depicted how giving can create meaningful change in a powerful way.
Having studied social work and Educational Leadership and Psychology, striving to help others, respecting the inherent dignity of all people, and enhancing well-being have always been a part of my own values. As I look forward, Rhythm Reach Foundation will look to invest in opportunities, research and organizations or institutions who are aligned with our goals of enhancing well-being, strengthening communities and respecting the dignity of all we serve.
